The National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra is just days away from seeing its theatrical release. Daayra will star two of the more prominent names across all Indian cinema, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, as they hunt down a criminal on the loose in a murder-kidnap case. In anticipation of its release this week, a new promo has been released featuring snippets of the movie unseen in the trailer.
The promo takes us further into the narrative, exploring various angles of the unfortunate kidnapping event. We also get a brief look into the operational methods regarding the treatment the victim’s mother deals with. DCP Raman Kumar (Prithviraj Sukumaran), during a press conference in the movie, reinstates his morals of justice with a single quote, saying, “All I can say is that the law has done its duty”. This helps paint a depiction of how his character takes matters into his hands and deals the type of justice to the guilty as per what seems fitting to him.
DCP Ajooni Kohli (Kareen Kapoor Khan), on the other hand, explains the situation of the women as to the type of talks they have to deal with. Regardless of the severity of the crime, it is always deemed a woman's fault, be it too much drinking or late-night partying. This mentality will be further explored.
Daayra takes inspiration from real events and will explore an important topic on women's safety. More questions will be answered about whether this was truly the act of a man or a group of psychopaths. Due to its release on September 18, 2026, and with many more crucial scenes being unveiled, there is much to look forward to
