Grammy-nominated singer Benson Boone is taking his talents to the big screen, with a new report suggesting he’s been tapped to star in the upcoming live-action Gundam movie.
What singer is rumored to have joined the live-action Gundam movie cast?
According to a new report from Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Boone will make his movie debut alongside the previously announced Sydney Sweeney in the upcoming movie. Boone’s role remains mysterious, but given the movie, it’s likely we’ll see Boone stepping into a giant mech and battling it out against either other Gundam pilots, or something else.
A Gundam live-action movie was first announced back in 2021, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts originally signed on to direct. Since then, though, the film has undergone some changes. Now, Jim Mickle (Sweet Tooth) is set to write and direct the script. Pretty much everything about the film is unknown as of now, including when the film is set to enter production, as Sweeney films Euphoria Season 3.
The Gundam franchise is one of the most popular anime franchises in history. Originally debuting in 1979, Gundam was created by Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino, and largely follows the story of various military groups that use gigantic mobile suits (known as Gundam in part) to battle against one another.
The franchise has gone on to spawn more than 50 television series, various films and OVAs, manga, novels, video games, and an entire line of plastic model kits known as Gunpla, which has dominated the Japanese toy market since its inception. Gundam is also largely seen as ushering in and defining the “mecha anime” genre, which is known for its mech or robot characters.
