Conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was interviewed by “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream.

Alito talked about his new book, “So Ordered. An Originalist’s View Of The Constitution, The Court, And Our Country .” Justice Alito is a Constitutional conservative who has sat on the bench since 2006. He was appointed by President George W. Bush.

Justice Alito also shared his views on different cases over recent years regarding topics including abortion, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech.

“The 76-year-old Justice has written a new book called ‘So Ordered. An Originalist’s View Of The Constitution, The Court, And Our Country.'” Bream said.

“There is a big theme of originalism and people always ask what exactly does that mean? You said it’s the theory that Constitutional provisions should be understood to mean what the public would have taken them to mean when they were adopted,” Bream said.

“In 2026, how do you figure out things that involve surveillance, or AI, or things the founders could have never envisioned?” Bream asked.

“When you are dealing with something like new technology, history cannot provide that kind of an answer. And so, in those instances, the best we can do is to try to understand as clearly as we can, the legal principle that is embodied in the Constitution, and then we have to apply that to this new technology and try to apply it in the way that makes the most sense,” Alito explained.

“Clearly, the Dobbs decision sparks all kinds of backlash. First, we had the leak, then we had the actual decision,” Bream said.

“Did you have the full import you think, or the understanding of how Dobbs would be received?” Bream asked.

“I anticipated that it would anger a great many people who believed and continue to believe strongly that there should be a Constitutional right to abortion,” Alito said.

“I never dreamed that the draft of the opinion would be leaked. That was totally unprecedented in the history of the country,” Alito said.

“It very predictably made the five of us in the majority targets for assassination, and nearly resulted in the assassination of my colleague, Brett Kavanaugh,” Alito said.

“You talked in that speech about the fact that casinos were open, clubs were open in places like Nevada, and yet people were having a really difficult time getting to their houses of worship,” Bream said, referring to Justice Altio’s speech in November 2020 during the pandemic.

“You said it was a stress test, the pandemic was, of our Constitutional rights,” Bream said.

“I think it was a stress test of our Constitutional rights,” Alito said.

“One of the things that unfortunately it disclosed was that many people were willing to downgrade certain Constitutional rights. The right to freedom of speech, and the right to the free exercise of religion,” Alito said.
