DC finally remembers a classic part of Superman's origins almost ninety whole years after it first appeared. Although the foundations of the Superman mythos seem eternal, many of his most iconic traits were secondary inventions that eventually superseded the original 1938 blueprint. The most famous of these is his ability to fly, which was originally limited to "leaping tall buildings in a single bound." Similarly, Kryptonite was first introduced in the 1943 radio show to give voice actor Bud Collyer a vacation, and Superman's Heat Vision began as a byproduct of Superman's X-Ray vision.
