A new production update revealed that DC Studios’ Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, will begin filming soon. The project continues James Gunn’s Superman and expands the story of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor.

Production for Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow is reportedly set to begin in June 2026, according to Nexus Point News.

DC Studios co-CEO and chairman James Gunn will write, direct, and produce the film, with Peter Safran also producing. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will return as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively, serving as co-leads. The film is scheduled to release on July 9, 2027, under Warner Bros. Discovery.

Gunn first announced the project’s title and release date in September 2025, sharing a teaser image featuring Superman and Lex Luthor. Additional artwork posted by Corenswet and Hoult hinted at a storyline where Superman and Luthor may both clash and cooperate. In DC Comics, Luthor develops his green Kryptonite-powered Warsuit to match Superman’s abilities, a detail Gunn teased with the promotional image.

Superman, released on July 11, 2025, marked the first film in the rebooted DC Universe. Directed by James Gunn, the movie introduced Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion). With a $225 million budget, it grossed more than $611 million worldwide, becoming the year’s highest-grossing superhero release.

Rumors suggest Man of Tomorrow may feature Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. Upcoming projects such as Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface will further expand the DCU, while Peacemaker Season 2 on Max (formerly HBO Max) continues Superman’s storyline and builds the franchise’s foundation.
