Stephen Colbertis transitioning from late-night television to movies, with his first major screenwriting project touching on his all-time favorite fantasy franchise. Colbert revealed on a live stream with Peter Jacksonthat he's co-writing a new film in the Lord of the Rings saga with his son,Peter McGee, which is meant to serve as both a prequel and a sequel to the original trilogy. Titled Lord of the Rings: The Shadow of the Past, the film will adapt six chapters from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring that Jackson's movies skipped over.
