“Star Wars: Starfighter” Begins Filming, Sets Cast

Today marks the official start of production on the Shawn Levy-directed “Star Wars: Starfighter”.

Lucasfilm has released the first photo from the set, taken by Ed Miller and showcasing the film’s stars Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray.

Until now, Gosling has been the only confirmed name for the film. That has changed with the full cast list released, which also includes Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.

The film is dubbed an all-new standalone adventure and entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars. Jonathan Tropper pens the script while Levy and Kathleen Kennedy produce. Levy says in a statement:

“I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime.”

“Star Wars: Starfighter” will be released theatrically on May 28th 2027.
