Christopher Nolan and George Lucas’ meeting has Star Wars fans calling for a new movie from Nolan. The two filmmakers crossed paths during the star-studded opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. In no time, their joint appearance grabbed attention from fans who already know Nolan’s deep admiration for Lucas’ work.

The gala brought more than 300 media personnel and hundreds of celebrities to the museum. Individual conversations between guests were not recorded, including private greetings inside the galleries and the fifth-floor restaurant.

The duo’s encounter led several fans to imagine Nolan taking over a future Star Wars project. A fan, @Lord_Lad7 wrote on X, “It has to be written in the stars for Nolan to make a Star Wars movie…”

@robesfuckingpi said, “A Dawn of the Jedi trilogy directed by Nolan would be amazing.” Meanwhile, another fan, @lonelyknight_23 commented, “We hoping Nolan become Director of Star Wars.”

Nolan and Lucas’ conversation opens the door to a bigger Star Wars discussion

Their meetup gives fans another reason to discuss what a Christopher Nolan Star Wars project could look like. However, there is currently no announcement confirming that Nolan is developing or directing a Star Wars movie.

The Oppenheimer director has previously talked about the influence Star Wars had on his love for filmmaking. During a conversation with South Korean filmmaker and former film critic Park Chan-wook last month, he said, “One of my earliest movie experiences (a very profound one) was seeing George Lucas’s first Star Wars… It came out of nowhere and completely rewired my brain in terms of what was possible in cinema.”

Nolan’s connection to Lucas’ work goes back to his childhood. He has previously recalled seeing the original 1977 film 12 times in theaters, which shows the lasting impact it had on him as a young fan.

The Lucas Museum also places Star Wars at the center of its opening programming. Its inaugural cinema exhibition, “Star Wars in Motion,” features vehicles and artifacts from Lucas’ first six Star Wars films.
