Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Renewed for Season 2 to Conclude Series

Paramount+ has officially confirmed that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will return for a second season, set to premiere in March 2027. The announcement, made during a panel at New York Comic Con in October 2026, brings a definitive timeline to the series. The renewal ensures a continuation of the 32nd-century narrative.

The production has secured significant star power for its second season. Bill Nighy joins the cast as Nyk Ake, the estranged father of Captain Nahla Ake, who is played by Holly Hunter. This casting choice adds a new layer of familial drama to the bridge of the Academy’s central vessel. Additionally, Rosemarie DeWitt has been cast in the guest role of Laytha Sadal, the First Lady of Betazed and mother to cadet Tarima Sadal.

The final season will feature an episode centered on the legacy of the Nova Squadron precision flight team.

Legacy Connections and the 32nd Century

Set in the same era as the later seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, the series continues to explore the Federation’s recovery following “The Burn.” The second season is expected to lean heavily into nostalgic references for longtime fans, specifically through an episode centered on Nova Squadron. This elite precision flight team, first introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation, is being reimagined for the modern era in what is described as a high-stakes, flight-focused installment.

The returning cast bridges multiple generations of the franchise. Robert Picardo reprises his iconic role as “The Doctor” from Star Trek: Voyager, providing a mechanical and historical link to the past.

With the March 2027 release window, the show will premiere alongside other major milestones in the Star Trek universe, providing a localized look at the future of Starfleet through the eyes of its youngest recruits before the timeline moves forward.
