With two Evil Dead movies lined up and at least three goofy creature features charting on different streaming platforms, the influence of Sam Raimi can truly be felt this year. The legendary genre filmmaker returned to directing this year with his first original movie in 17 years. The survival horror thriller was almost released directly on streaming, considering how dramatically the theatrical market has changed in the last half-decade, but Raimi exercised all the goodwill he had accumulated in his career to guarantee a big-screen release. The movie surprised the industry by grossing more than two times its reported budget and earning excellent reviews. It's now continuing that momentum in its home-video run.
