Soulslike game Wuchang is officially getting a sequel developed by its creator's new studio after the original team reportedly disbanded

While we weren't too hot on the 2025 soulslike Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, it was a hit for Chinese developer Leenzee and publisher 505 Games, reaching five million players across all platforms. However, a report from the Chinese publication Gamersky earlier this year claimed that the game's director and producer, Xia Siyuan, had been fired from Leenzee. A number of staff were also reportedly let go afterwards.

Although the Wuchang IP was then sold to 505 Games' parent company, Digital Bros, for around $4.6 million back in April, the future of the series was left up in the air.

Turns out, it's back on the table, as Xia Siyuan returns to the helm at his new studio, Indolphinity, working on a sequel with 505 Games, confirmed in a press release and an announcement on the publisher's social media.

"Today, we’re excited to share that 505 Games has officially entered into a new partnership with Xia Siyuan, the original creator of WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, and his new studio Indolphinity … to jointly create a brand‑new chapter of the WUCHANG IP."

"As of now, the WUCHANG sequel has officially entered its preparation phase:

Indolphinity will lead the creative development, while 505 Games will provide funding and global publishing. Future development will remain firmly rooted in China."

“We are delighted to embark once again on a deep collaboration with 505 Games under our new studio banner, Indolphinity,” said Siyuan in a separate statement. "As a homegrown development team made up of Chinese creators, we have always believed that a rich cultural heritage is the essence of our games and their competitive strength."

"505 Games’s respect for the creative process and its genuine understanding of developers’ needs are perfectly in tune with our own values, and this shared vision gives us confidence in the long-term future of the series."

Of course, it depends on how this sequel pans out, but it sounds like those involved have high hopes for this up-and-coming soulslike. Digital Bros co-CEO Raffi Galante chimed in to say that they "strongly believe in Wuchang as a long-term global franchise."

While very few soulslikes can go toe to toe with FromSoftware, it's nice to know that Wuchang isn't being left to rot, and that its original team is getting another shot after all.
