During the 2026 CinemaCon, Paramount Pictures gave attendees a first look at Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Although there was barely any new footage in the preview, some brief snippets showcased the return of Jim Carrey, who once again reprises his iconic role as Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik in the sequel. Based on the preview, Dr. Robotnik plans to save the world in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but didn't he just do that in Sonic the Hedgehog 3? The Sonic franchise seems to have reached a tipping point with the character, and it's taking a big risk by bringing him back. The truth is, the franchise just doesn't need Dr. Robotnik anymore.
