Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is a new Netflix horror mini-series, co-produced by Stranger Things’ The Duffer Brothers. It premiered on March 26 and stars Camila Morrone as Rachel.

In the finale episode, titled “I Do,” Rachel marries Nicky, but a little too late. To lift Rachel’s curse, both partners must truly believe they are soulmates and must marry before sundown on their wedding day. Since neither condition was met, the curse spread to Nicky’s Cunningham family. As a result, anyone who was married in the Cunninghams and didn’t believe their spouse to be their soulmate died.

For context, Rachel comes from the Harkin family that has long carried a terrifying curse dating back centuries. Episode 4, “The Witness,” reveals that the curse began when a groom died right before marrying his fiancée. Devastated by her lover’s untimely death, the bride cried to death and begged to bring her soulmate back to life.

Death agreed to revive the groom, but it had one condition for the bride: she must be absolutely certain he was her true soulmate. If she ever doubted it, she would die a gruesome death. While the bride remained certain, she still carried the curse. It was later passed down through her lineage.

Things took a darker turn when one of her descendants, known as The Witness, left his bride Marianne at the altar. The curse then passed to Marianne, and Death punished him by granting him immortality to witness every marriage in her family. Marianne eventually married Thomas Harkin, Rachel’s distant ancestor.

As a descendant of Harkin, Rachel inherited the curse. On her wedding day, Nicky had cold feet, leaving Rachel unsure about their relationship. When members of the Cunningham family started dying, the couple rushed through the wedding ceremony.

Since Rachel was still unsure about Nicky being her soulmate, she died. After multiple Cunningham deaths, Rachel mysteriously came back to life, and The Witness finally passed away. This suggests that Rachel is now immortal and took his place.
