The latest installment of Apple TV+’s Slow Horses has delivered its most significant casualty to date. In Season 6, Episode 4, titled “Lost and Found,” the series bid a violent farewell to J.K. Coe, the stoic and tech-savvy member of Slough House played by Tom Brooke.

The episode, which premiered on October 7, 2026, centered on a high-stakes pursuit that ultimately cornered Coe in a shopping center bathroom. While Coe has long been defined by his quiet intensity and his history of psychological trauma, his final moments saw him engage in a desperate knife fight against Jim (Kyle Soller), a ruthless assassin working for the Russian GRU. Despite Coe’s tactical preparation, the confrontation ended in his death, marking a definitive exit for Brooke from the series.

A Departure from ‘Joe Country’

Fans of the original Mick Herron novels will note that the television adaptation took a significant creative departure regarding the circumstances of Coe’s demise. In the source novel, Joe Country, Coe’s death occurs during a mercenary ambush in a snowy field in Wales. By relocating the scene to a public service-station bathroom, the showrunners leaned into a more claustrophobic and visceral action sequence, emphasizing the immediate danger the “Slow Horses” face in urban environments.

The death of Coe is particularly impactful coming on the heels of the return of Sid Baker (Olivia Cooke). The series appears to have traded one long-standing character’s survival for another’s loss, maintaining the high-mortality stakes that have defined the show since its debut. According to IGN Africa, the loss of Coe leaves the Slough House team increasingly vulnerable, especially as their MI5 records have been systematically targeted.

The Rising Threat of the GRU

The episode did not end its trail of devastation with Coe’s death. Immediately following the bathroom encounter, the Russian assassins—Jim and his partner Jane (MyAnna Buring)—managed to take Sid Baker captive. This development effectively shifts the focus of the remaining season toward a rescue mission, even as the team reels from the loss of one of their own.

While the rest of the team dealt with the immediate fallout of the assassination attempt, Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) continued his own shadow games. In a quieter but no less tense scene, Lamb met with the mercenary Frank Harkness (Hugo Weaving) at a Shake Shack to discuss the evolving threat. The meeting underscored the complexity of the current season’s conspiracy, which involves rogue elements and international intelligence agencies targeting the rejects of Slough House with lethal precision.

With Coe gone and Sid in the hands of the GRU, the remaining episodes of Season 6 face a significantly altered status quo. Although Season 7 has reportedly already completed filming, Tom Brooke is no longer expected to appear in the cast for future chapters of the spy drama.
