2026 is already shaping up to be a great year for movies, both on streaming and in theaters. The biggest theatrical release of the year so far certainly belongs to Project Hail Mary (starring Ryan Gosling), but it’s poised to lose this crown soon thanks to the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (starring Anya Taylor-Joy). There have even been a few massively successful straight-to-streaming movies, particularly War Machine, the ambitious sci-fi blockbuster starring Reacher’s Alan Ritchson. War Machine spent weeks atop Netflix streaming charts on its way to becoming the streamer’s biggest new release of 2026. War Machine has since lost the top spot on Netflix to The Immortal Man, the Peaky Blinders sequel film starring Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth.
