Co-creator Bill Lawrence has confirmed that every cast member will return for Shrinking Season 4, including Harrison Ford. Lawrence made the announcement following the Season 3 finale, which saw most characters temporarily leave Jimmy’s life. “The entire ensemble is returning,” Lawrence told The Hollywood Reporter.

The Season 3 finale saw characters scatter across the country, with Paul and his wife Julie relocating to Connecticut. Lawrence confirmed Ford’s return was deliberately teased in the finale. “It’s not an accident that Alice goes to school at Wesleyan University and that in the end of the finale, she’s going by to have dinner at Paul’s house,” he said.

Lawrence confirmed Season 4 will feature a significant time jump beyond the show’s usual few-month gaps. “This will definitely be significant and beyond a year or two,” he told THR. The new season will mark a narrative departure from the first three seasons, which followed Jimmy processing his wife’s death.

“We’ve told the story of whether or not Jason Segel’s Jimmy is going to make it through the death of his wife and come out the other side as someone who might be able to find joy and happiness in his life again,” Lawrence explained. He confirmed Jimmy’s Parkinson’s storyline, involving Harrison Ford, will continue into future seasons.

Lawrence also confirmed Michael J. Fox will return after the actor expressed enjoyment working on the show. “He made the mistake of saying he enjoyed it,” Lawrence said. “He’ll definitely be back.”

Season 4 is currently in development, with Lawrence meeting writers to map out arcs for the next two seasons.
