Analysis: Shiba Inu traded at $0.00000468 on Thursday evening according to Coinbase data and at $0.00000471 at the last close on the Kraken exchange, both as of 29 October, 9:54 p.m. CET. The evidence: that puts the price below every daily close of the past 71 days. Our own assessment follows further down, and it is more cautious than the market mood that evening.
If you hold Shiba Inu in your portfolio, you face a different situation than you did two days ago. The meme coin was the steady performer among the large tokens on Wednesday; now it belongs to the weaker half of the field. This article sets out where the next evidenced levels sit, what the European Central Bank's rate decision from the same day has to do with it, and which two things actually decide the price when you buy or sell amounts this small.
Shiba Inu price on Thursday evening: $0.0000047 and a daily low at $0.0000046
Price readings diverge slightly depending on the exchange and the time of retrieval. Coinbase shows $0.00000468 for the spot market, which converts to 0.000004165 euros. Kraken gives $0.0000047060 as the last close. CoinGecko, which averages across several venues, was still at $0.00000478 when queried at 9:41 p.m. and showed a loss of 3.55 percent over 24 hours there. The spread between the sources comes to around two percent and says one thing above all: the price was moving that evening.
More telling than the point value is the day's range. On the Kraken exchange, the high of the past 24 hours was $0.00000508 and the low $0.00000460. The same period had opened at $0.00000497. Between high and low lie 10.4 percent, and the price sits closer to the low than to the high. The volume-weighted average of those 24 hours, meaning the price at which trading actually took place, is $0.00000489. Anyone who bought that day is therefore down on average.
The market value of all circulating SHIB tokens is 2.824 billion dollars, trading volume over the past 24 hours 76.5 million dollars. That places Shiba Inu 37th among the largest crypto assets by market value. The all-time high of $0.00008616 from 27 October 2021 is 94.5 percent away. That figure has barely moved for months and is the least useful one for today, because the value describes a different market phase.
The last lower daily close lies 71 days back
This is what is new about this Thursday. We evaluated the daily closing prices of the past twelve months, 366 values from CoinGecko. The result: the last day on which Shiba Inu closed lower than it did on Thursday was 19 August 2026 at $0.00000441. Between the two lie 71 days on which every single close sat above today's level.
That is a different statement from Tuesday's. On 27 October we wrote here that Shiba Inu at $0.00000488 was trading lower than on any day in September. The reach of that statement has doubled since then and now extends not just to early September but into the second half of August. September's lowest daily close was $0.00000494, the monthly average $0.00000544. Both values now sit clearly above the current price.
August was the last month with a longer weak phase. Thirteen days produced a close below $0.0000047 there, from 7 to 19 August almost without interruption. The price then turned upwards and stayed above that level for more than two months. If you remember the situation back then, you have a sense of how long such phases can last: in that case it was just under two weeks.
October: 18.75 percent gone since the first of the month
On 1 October, Shiba Inu closed at $0.00000575. The monthly high followed on 5 October at $0.00000592. From the first of the month to today's level, 18.75 percent is missing. Over 30 days CoinGecko shows a loss of 16.71 percent, over seven days 3.12 percent and over twelve months 53.77 percent.
The month ends on Saturday. So it is settled that October will go into the statistics as a losing month for Shiba Inu, and a pronounced one at that. A monthly close below the 30-day average has a mechanical consequence that reaches beyond the day: every moving average that includes October will pull downwards in the coming weeks, even if the price itself stands still. For investors who work with moving averages, the line they align their entries to drops accordingly.
The old marks are high and dry: the weekly and monthly averages both sit above Thursday evening's price. The field on Thursday: Polkadot and XRP weaker, Bitcoin firmer
The day's comparison shows Shiba Inu in the middle of the pack that evening. According to CoinGecko data as of 9:41 p.m., Polkadot lost 6.00 percent, XRP 5.05 percent and Cardano 4.29 percent. Shiba Inu gave up 3.55 percent, Solana 3.72 percent, Chainlink 3.37 percent and Dogecoin 3.28 percent. At the upper end stand Ethereum with a 2.30 percent loss and Bitcoin with 1.61 percent.
That is the reverse of Wednesday's picture. Back then Shiba Inu sat above Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Cardano and was the firmer asset. Two of those four are now ahead of it. What has changed is not the direction of the overall market but Shiba Inu's position within it: the token follows the market down, only faster than the two large ones and slower than the weakest altcoins.
Bitcoin trades at 79,732 dollars, Ethereum at 2,295 dollars, Solana at 98.20 dollars and Dogecoin at 0.077158 dollars. That the larger meme coin Dogecoin finishes 0.27 percentage points better than Shiba Inu on this day is too little to support a statement about the category. Both move within the same band.
The ECB deposit rate of 2.50 percent is the benchmark
On the same Thursday, the Governing Council of the European Central Bank left its key rates unchanged. The deposit facility, the rate at which banks park money overnight at the central bank, stays at 2.50 percent and has sat there since 16 September 2026. The main refinancing rate stands at 2.65 percent, the marginal lending facility at 2.90 percent. This emerges from the ECB's rate table. In the same session, Christine Lagarde announced that she would step down early as ECB president.
For a token like Shiba Inu, that rate is the yardstick it gets measured against. Shiba Inu is an Ethereum token with no interest income: holding it pays you nothing for holding it. Its return arises solely from a higher selling price. As long as safe euro deposits bring 2.50 percent a year, Shiba Inu first has to catch up with those 2.50 percent before any profit even begins. At a price of $0.00000468, that arithmetically corresponds to a rise to $0.00000480 within a year, just to draw level.
That explains no single trading day, and it would be wrong to present the rate decision as the cause of today's loss. It does explain, though, why tokens without running income are structurally at a disadvantage in a phase of firm interest rates. If you split your balance between overnight deposits, interest-bearing stablecoins and tokens, you therefore keep reckoning with both directions.
52 of 366 days: this is how rarely Shiba Inu stood lower
One more figure from our own evaluation, because it places today's level without dramatising it. Of 366 daily closing prices over the past twelve months, 52 sat below Thursday's level. That is 14.2 percent of all days. Put differently: on almost six out of seven days of the past year, Shiba Inu was more expensive than it is now.
The yearly low fell on 17 July 2026 at $0.00000411, the yearly high on 2 November 2025 at $0.00001019. Between today's price and the yearly low lie 12.2 percent to the downside. Those 12.2 percent are the only evidenced measure for the question of how much room the past year allowed on the way down before the price turned.
The levels below: $0.0000046, the August range and the yearly low
Three levels can be argued for on the downside, and none of them is a prophecy. The first is the daily low of $0.00000460: the price has already held there once on this Thursday. The second is the August range between $0.00000439 and $0.00000450, in which the price oscillated for thirteen days from 11 to 19 August. The third is the yearly low of $0.00000411.
On the upside, two levels follow from the averages. The seven-day average sits at $0.00000495, the 30-day average at $0.00000532. Both lie above the current price, the weekly average by 5.8 percent, the monthly average by 13.7 percent. As long as Shiba Inu stays below the weekly average, the short-term direction is down, even on a day with a green sign. The round level of $0.0000050, which the price was still fighting over on Wednesday, is now 6.8 percent away.
Decimal places and minimum sizes sit in the exchanges' fine print and decide the actual price with SHIB.Nine decimal places: with SHIB the smallest price step decides the fill
At a price with six zeros after the decimal point, a technical figure decides the price that nobody notices with Bitcoin: the tick size. That is the smallest price step in which an exchange accepts an order. For the pair SHIB against the US dollar, the Kraken exchange's public venue interface names a tick size of $0.000000001, meaning nine decimal places. Coinbase shows its spot price with eight decimal places.
In practice that means: a limit of $0.000004685 can be set on a venue with nine places, on one with eight it cannot. There it gets rounded to $0.00000468 or $0.00000469, and the difference of one hundredth of a cent per token adds up to a full cent across a million tokens. That sounds small and, on positions of several million tokens, is the difference between a fill and an order that sits there.
Added to this are two limits that set your order size. The same interface names a minimum order size of 770,000 tokens and a minimum counter value of $0.50 for SHIB against the dollar. So if you want to get in with 20 euros, at this price you are well above that with around 4.9 million tokens and have no problem. If you want to sell a partial position of 200,000 tokens, you cannot do so on this venue. The spread from the same data that evening came to $0.0000000070 between the buy and sell side, which converts to 0.15 percent of the price. Which venues apply which minimum sizes and fees is set out in our exchange comparison.
Loss offsetting: the deadline for this tax year runs until 31 December
A price standing lower than it did two months ago brings a question with it for German investors that has nothing to do with the chart. Losses from selling crypto assets within the one-year holding period are private disposal losses under section 23 of the German Income Tax Act and can be offset against gains from the same type of income, meaning against gains from other private disposals in the same year, and in the event of a surplus carried forward to the following year or back to the previous one.
What counts is the date of the sale, not the calendar year of the purchase. If you realised gains from crypto sales within the holding period in 2026 and at the same time hold a SHIB position at a loss, you have until 31 December to bring the two together in the same year. If you have already passed the one-year mark on your SHIB tokens, you sell tax-free but then cannot claim the loss either. Which acquisition dates sit in your holdings is shown by a portfolio tracker. This section does not replace tax advice.
Our assessment: a two-month low is not yet a sell-off
From the editorial team's point of view, the data supports a continuation of the downward move rather than a turn. Three evidenced points speak for that: the price sits below the weekly and monthly averages, October closes with around 19 percent down, and the token was weaker than Bitcoin and Ethereum on this day although it was still stronger the day before. One equally evidenced point speaks against it: the daily low at $0.00000460 held, and the distance to the yearly low is still 12.2 percent, clearly more than a single day's move.
What does not follow from these numbers is a statement about the price a week from now. October's move came about without a single piece of news from the Shiba Inu environment: neither token burning nor the figures of its own blockchain produced a break this week. The price follows the overall market, and that follows the central banks. For observation, that means the next inflation figures from the euro area weigh more for Shiba Inu than any metric of the project itself. Anyone holding crypto assets has to reckon with a total loss.
Shiba Inu in November: above $0.0000049 the recovery begins
Three things can be drawn from this Thursday's numbers:
Watch the level at $0.00000495. That is the seven-day average. Only a close above it turns the current move into a recovery rather than a single counter-day. Until then the direction stays down. If you take interest-bearing balances as your yardstick in the meantime, the terms are in the comparison of staking platforms. Check your own order size against the venue's limits. Minimum size, tick size and spread decide the price more strongly with SHIB than with any large token. The terms of the available providers are in the exchange comparison. Put your acquisition dates together before the turn of the year. Whether a loss from October is usable for tax purposes depends on the purchase date and on a sale in the same year. A portfolio tracker delivers the data the tax office wants to see.(As of October 29, 2026. This article is not investment advice.
