Shane Nigam is steadily expanding his presence across South Indian cinema, and the actor has now added another Tamil project to his upcoming slate. Tentatively titled Shane 28, the yet-to-be-titled film was officially announced on Monday. The project is backed by Maas Studios and will be directed by debutant filmmaker Jegan Periyasamy, who previously worked as an associate with filmmaker Atlee.

Set against the backdrop of cricket, the upcoming film marks another foray into sports-centric cinema for Shane. While details about the storyline remain under wraps, the cricket setting adds a fresh dimension to the actor's growing body of work in Tamil cinema.

Shane's third Tamil outing

Shane 28 will be Shane Nigam's third Tamil film following his debut with Vaali Mohan Das' Madraskaaran. The actor subsequently featured in Balti, a Malayalam-Tamil bilingual sports action film directed by Unni Sivalingam. The film revolved around the world of kabaddi and saw Shane share screen space with Selvaraghavan, who played the antagonist.

With Shane 28, the actor appears to be continuing his association with sports-driven narratives while taking on a project rooted in cricket. The film also gives debutant director Jegan Periyasamy an opportunity to make his mark as a filmmaker after his stint as part of Atlee's filmmaking team.

New collaborations on the way

On the technical front, Shane 28 has R Ramarand on board as the editor, while Rasamathi is handling the cinematography. The makers have kept details about the cast and other members of the crew under wraps for now. More announcements are expected in the coming days, including information about Shane's co-stars and the film's other key departments.

The Tamil project comes at a time when Shane is also widening his reach into Telugu cinema. He is set to make his Telugu debut with an action thriller helmed by debutant Udagandla Balasagar. Tentatively referred to as Shane 27, the project marks another new-language venture for the actor.

With both Shane 27 and Shane 28 lined up, Shane Nigam is clearly looking beyond Malayalam cinema and building a more pan-South presence. His upcoming projects also see him exploring different genres and sporting worlds, making his next phase particularly interesting for audiences across languages.
