Scott Mann and the Spierig Brothers are taking audiences back to terrifying heights, and this time, they have a new cast and a deadlier location to work with. Fans of the original surprise streaming hit have been waiting for this news. The filmmakers have now confirmed exactly when Lionsgate’s Fall 2 will release in theaters.
Fall 2 gets a summer release date
Fall 2 has officially received a summer release date, with Lionsgate scheduling the survival thriller sequel for August 7, 2026 (via Deadline). The film stars Harriet Slater, Arsema Thomas, and Tom Brittney in the leading roles.
The Spierig Brothers, known for directing Jigsaw and Predestination, helm the sequel. Scott Mann and Jonathan Frank, writers of the original Fall, penned the script for Fall 2.
The film follows two friends who attempt the plank walk of Mount Kwan in Thailand to cope with grief. A sudden rockslide strands them on a fragile plank 3,000 feet in the air, forcing them to fight for survival.
Lionsgate released the original Fall on August 11, 2022, on a reported $3 million budget. The film earned $18 million worldwide and became the second most-watched film on Netflix in the United Kingdom, trailing only Luther: The Fallen Sun.
Tea Shop Productions co-founder James Harris credited the original film’s streaming success entirely to word of mouth, with no significant marketing push behind it. The strong performance on streaming directly drove the development of not just Fall 2, but also a confirmed third installment in the franchise (via Bloody Disgusting).
Fall 3 will see original director Scott Mann return to the director’s chair. Fall 2 carries no direct narrative connection to the first film. It currently remains unknown whether any characters from previous installments will appear.
The filmmakers used deepfake technology on the actors’ faces to alter dialogue and secure a PG-13 rating. Producers believed an R-rated release would have limited the box office reach and prevented any sequels from being made.
