Scrubs Reboot Adds Yet Another Returning Character to Cast (Updated)

UPDATE 9/4: Per Deadline, it has also now been announced that John C. McGinley will also reprise his role as Dr. Perry Cox in the Scrubs reboot.

Another former Scrubs cast member is returning for the new reboot show.

Created by Bill Lawrence, Scrubs originally premiered on NBC in 2001. The medical sitcom comedy show ran for seven seasons on that network before it then switched over to ABC for its eighth and ninth seasons. It stars Zach Braff as John Michael “J.D.” Dorian, Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid, and Donald Faison as Christopher Turk.

A Scrubs reboot show produced by 20th Television is now in the works and received an official series order this past July. Braff, Faison, and Chalke are all reprising their respective roles and will serve as executive producers.

Who has joined the cast of the Scrubs reboot?

Per Deadline, the Scrubs reboot will also see Judy Reyes reprise her role as Carla Espinosa. Reyes played Carla, who is the head nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, for the first eight seasons of the original show.

“ABC’s new Scrubs will follow JD (Braff) and Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time,” Deadline further reports. “Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way.”

Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will serve as showrunners on the new Scrubs reboot. They also executive produce alongside Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer.

In addition to playing Carla, Reyes plays Selena Soto alongside Kaitlin Olson’s Morgan Gillory on ABC’s High Potential. She has also starred in television series such as Oz, Devious Maids, Jane the Virgin, Claws, and Dr. Death, while some of her recent filmography includes 2022’s Smile and 2024’s Turtles All the Way Down. 

A premiere date for the Scrubs reboot has not yet been announced.
