Scott Mills at the Wicked For Good premiere last yearThe Metropolitan Police has said that Scott Mills was previously investigated over allegations of “serious sexual offences” against a boy under the age of 16.
Earlier this week, the BBC announced it had severed ties with Mills with immediate effect, due to allegations about his personal conduct.
Following this, The Mirror reported that the Radio 2 host’s firing came following a complaint made about a previous police investigation involving the presenter.
Although this remains unconfirmed by the BBC, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson told The Mirror that an investigation had been opened in December 2016 “related to allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy”, and that Mills had been questioned under caution in July 2018.
On Tuesday morning, BBC News claimed that the police had since clarified that the teenager in question was under 16, the age of consent in England and Wales, at the time of the investigation, which was eventually closed due to a lack of evidence.
The BBC declined to comment when contacted by HuffPost UK on Tuesday, other than to reissue a previous statement, which read: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”
HuffPost UK has also contacted Scott Mills’ team for comment.
Mills is best known as the host of Radio 2’s flagship breakfast show, a position he has held since early 2025, when he took over the role from Zoe Ball.
Before he was sacked, he had worked with the BBC for almost 30 years, joining the corporation in 1998 as a presenter on Radio 1, before making the jump to Radio 5 Live and Radio 2.
He has also helped present coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest and taken part in the BBC reality shows Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Race Across The World, the latter of which he won in 2024.
