Following the critical and box-office success of “Send Help,” Sam Raimi is already lining up his next genre movie to direct.
THR reports that while Raimi, who has been attached to produce a remake of 1978 cult horror classic “Magic” for a while now, is now set to direct the film as well.
Back in 2022, producer Roy Lee first teased that Raimi would potentially direct the film, which was in very early development stages and had to sort out rights issues.
Then last year, Raimi officially set the film up at his production company but was only listed as producer at the time.
Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who wrote “Sent Help” and the 2009 remake of “Friday the 13th,” are penning the script.
Anthony Hopkins starred in the original as Corky, a magician who reaches fame alongside his obnoxious ventriloquist’s dummy called ‘Fats’.
On the verge of signing a network deal for his own show, but scared to reveal his precarious mental state, the magician takes off for the Catskills.
Once there, he tries to reconnect with a high school love, while Fats begins to take charge of the situation murderously. Ann-Margret and Burgess Meredith also starred in the film, which was directed by Richard Attenborough and penned by William Goldman based on his 1976 novel.
Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan are also producing the new take.
