Ryan Murphy Just Gave Glee Fans a Reason to Hope for a Comeback

Ryan Murphy just dropped a major hint about the future of Glee that fans will not want to miss. The beloved show’s creator revealed his thoughts on bringing the series back during a recent red carpet appearance.

Ryan Murphy recently discussed the possibility of bringing back Glee during a conversation with People. The producer spoke at the red carpet premiere of his latest FX series, The Shards, at SVA Theatre in New York City on Monday, July 27.

Murphy looked back warmly on his experience creating the beloved musical comedy. “Well, I loved them all. I had a great time making that show,” he stated. The producer then highlighted how the series continues to attract fresh viewers years later. “That show is interesting because it’s come back around. So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show,'” he revealed.

Murphy further expressed deep personal attachment to the show and what it represented. “My nostalgia and love for that show is enough that I’m like, ‘Well, maybe people would like to see a new incarnation of that in some capacity.’ So yeah, I love that show and I loved what it became and what it meant to so many people,” he explained.

The FOX musical comedy ran for six seasons between 2009 and 2015. Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron and Naya Rivera headlined the cast. Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Darren Criss, Harry Shum Jr. and Mark Salling also starred as club members.

Matthew Morrison played glee club teacher Will Schuester across the entire run. Jane Lynch portrayed fan favorite antagonist Sue Sylvester, who became a standout character. Throughout its tenure, the series collected six Emmy wins from 40 total nominations.

Meanwhile, Murphy’s newest venture adapts Bret Easton Ellis’ 2023 novel of the same name. The Shards is set in 1980s Los Angeles and centers on students navigating their final year at a prep school. The cast includes Igby Rigney, Homer Gere, Kaia Gerber and Evan Rachel Wood. Audiences can catch the series premiere on FX and Hulu on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
