British boxing great Ricky Hatton has been found dead at his home in Greater Manchester.
The former world champion, 46, was found at his address on Bowlacre Road in Gee Cross, Hyde, reports the Manchester Evening News.
A statement from the Greater Manchester Police read: ‘Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45am today where they found the body of a 46-year-old man. There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.’
Hatton first boxed professionally in 1997 and became one of the most popular fighters in Britain as he built up a brilliant unbeaten record and won world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight.
There were superb wins over the likes of Kostya Tszyu, Juan Urango and Jose Luis Castillo as he extended his record to 43-0 by 2007.
He then suffered the first defeat of his career, stopped by one of the greatest of all time Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas in December 2007.
He rebounded with wins over Juan Lazcano and Paulie Malignaggi before suffering a knockout defeat to another legend in the form of Manny Pacquiao.
He retired after that bout in 2009, returning briefly in 2012, but was beaten by Vyacheslav Senchenko in that outing.
