Astley broke into the spotlight back in 1987 with his huge hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, and followed it up decades later with 2016’s ‘50’, and 2023’s ‘Are We There Yet?’. He also made headlines for his collaborations with Foo Fighters and Blossoms in recent years.
The latter has teamed up with Astley numerous times to perform The Smiths supergroup covers. They first did so in 2022, when the singer joined Blossoms on stage in London to perform a number of Smiths covers – before they then played a number of full gigs dedicated to the iconic ’80s indie icons.
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr was less than pleased having not been told about it, before telling NME that he’d been in touch with Blossoms and “dealt with it“.
They then worked together more recently, performing a cover of Charli XCX‘s ‘360’ in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge in 2024.
In other Rick Astley news, the singer made headlines this spring too when he posted an acoustic cover of Chappell Roan‘s ‘Pink Pony Club’ on YouTube.
