Resident Evil 2 Release Date: When Could Zach Cregger’s New Movie Potentially Get a Sequel?

Resident Evil has already created huge buzz this weekend. The movie’s release has fans discussing a possible sequel already. Director Zach Cregger recently shared an update about it.

So, when could Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil get a potential sequel?

When could a new Resident Evil 2 movie get its release date?

In a recent interview with Variety, Zach Cregger was asked about the possibility of a Resident Evil 2, to which he simply said, “I have no idea.” When further asked if he has any ideas about the film, the director answered, “There’s always ideas. You cannot not have ideas.” He did not confirm an official sequel.

During the interview, Cregger also shared that he currently has several projects lined up, saying he’s in “soft prep” for The Flood. He said he hopes production will enter “hard prep” next year and start shooting next summer. The director is also working on the Weapons prequel, Gladys, which he said might come out after The Flood, though he remained uncertain about the timeline.

So based on Cregger’s comments, a potential Resident Evil sequel might be several years away if Cregger returns to direct. There is currently no confirmed timeline. However, Sony could potentially bring another director into the mix, which could help the sequel arrive sooner.

Resident Evil’s ending has also left fans with questions. Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, reaches the hospital with a package needed for the t-Virus cure. He transforms into a huge creature before receiving it.

The cure falls from a sky bridge and may be destroyed. Its fate remains unknown, leaving Raccoon City’s survival uncertain. The movie also has no post-credits scene. It has already received strong reactions from critics and fans.

Rotten Tomatoes currently has a 96% critics score and a 90% audience score. With the film generating positive buzz, fans will likely remain curious about its sequel. For now, though, Cregger has not confirmed Resident Evil 2 and viewers will have to wait for more official updates.
