One of the top prospects in the Milwaukee Brewers‘ system is getting a big contract before playing a game in the majors.

Shortstop Cooper Pratt and the Brewers have reportedly agreed to an eight-year, $51-million contract, Bob Nightengale of USA Today was first to report.

The contract includes two team options, and Pratt will become a free agent at age 29.

Pratt, 21, was a sixth-round pick by the Brewers in 2023 and is Milwaukee’s No. 4 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

He’s playing in triple-A this season for the first time and reached as high as double-A in 2025. Last season, Pratt hit .238/.343/.348 with eight home runs and 31 stolen bases in 120 double-A games.
