PS Plus cloud

Sony has been making an effort to improve PS Plus cloud game streaming, but a new Game Pass update far surpasses anything PS Plus has to offer. Microsoft has announced that it’s expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming to lower Game Pass tiers: Core and Standard.

While PS Plus limits cloud streaming to Premium, Game Pass expands cloud streaming to lower tiers

Sony advertises cloud gaming as one of the main attractions of PS Plus Premium, which is the most expensive tier of the service. Microsoft, too, previously limited cloud gaming to the priciest Game Pass Ultimate subscription. However, that’s set to change.

“Xbox Game Pass Core and Standard subscribers will be able to stream cloud playable games included with their subscription or select cloud playable games they own, making it easier to jump in from any supported device,” Microsoft announced.

Price-wise, there isn’t a huge difference between PS Plus Premium and Game Pass Ultimate, but the latter does offer day-one releases, which Sony’s service won’t ever match. But I do feel that cloud gaming need not be limited to Premium.

Sony’s cloud streaming is further limited by location. A large number of countries, including Australia and Malaysia, aren’t offered the premium benefit despite having suitable internet speed.

Here’s hoping Sony takes some notes from Microsoft.
