Practical Magic 2 Still Beats Spider-Man 4 Despite Huge Box Office Drop

Practical Magic 2 just proved that even a rough second weekend can’t knock it off its perch. The Warner Bros. sequel held its ground against one of the biggest blockbusters of all time at the domestic box office this weekend.

Practical Magic 2 stays ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in second weekend

Warner Bros.’ Practical Magic 2 held the No. 2 spot at the domestic box office this weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. The sequel earned an estimated $12.1 million in its second frame. As a result, it dropped 59.5% from its $30 million opening weekend.

The film now stands at $50 million domestically and $76.8 million worldwide. Additionally, it played across 4,163 theaters, adding 17 locations from last week. The PG-13-rated fantasy romance continues to draw audiences despite the steep second-weekend decline.

Meanwhile, Practical Magic 2 stayed ahead of Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which landed at No. 3. The superhero blockbuster earned $6.5 million in its eighth weekend. It lost 286 theaters but only dropped 22.7% from the previous frame.

Nevertheless, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains a massive commercial success regardless of its lower placement. The film has accumulated $944.5 million domestically and $2.478 billion worldwide. Those numbers currently make it the third-biggest movie of all time globally.

Elsewhere, Sony’s Resident Evil claimed the top spot this weekend with a $60 million debut. The newcomer opened across 3,684 theaters, pushing both holdovers down one position. Furthermore, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey rounded out the top four with $4.9 million, bringing its domestic total to $609.7 million after 10 weeks.

Coyote vs. Acme held fifth place with $4.5 million against a $54.8 million cumulative gross. In contrast, Runner slid to sixth with $3.1 million in its sophomore frame, dropping 50.8%. Two newcomers also cracked the top ten this weekend. Daniel and the Fiery Furnace debuted at No. 7 with $3.1 million. Finally, the 40th anniversary re-release of The Transformers: The Movie opened at No. 8 with $3.1 million.
