Portion of Broadway to be renamed after iconic Oakland political organization
A busy portion of Broadway in downtown Oakland will be renamed in honor of the Black Panther Party. Last week, the Oakland City Council voted unanimously in favor of the change. On Saturday, local leaders will gather at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of 15th Street and Broadway for a ribbon-cutting. The new name will take effect on Broadway between 14th and 17th streets. The change comes as the Black Panther Party prepares to celebrate 60 years. The anniversary event also includes a two-day conference, gala, community gathering, and multiple other events. You can find more details on the anniversary...
