Peacock has pulled the trigger on a high-profile espionage drama led by a familiar Marvel face, ending its run after just one season. The streamer’s decision arrives only months after the show’s debut, despite a warm critical reception that failed to translate into sustained viewership.
The Copenhagen Test canceled after 1 season by Peacock
Peacock has officially cancelled The Copenhagen Test after a single season. The espionage thriller, headlined by Marvel star Simu Liu, will not return for additional episodes. Variety exclusively broke the cancellation news on April 15, 2026.
The series released all eight episodes of its debut season on December 27, 2025. Critics responded positively, awarding the show a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the favourable reception, the series struggled to attract a substantial viewership.
Nielsen data revealed the show accumulated 373 million minutes viewed during the week of December 29 through January 4. This performance secured the number 10 position on the Nielsen top 10 streaming originals chart. The series failed to crack the top 10 ranking in any subsequent weeks.
The official logline described the series as following “first-generation Chinese-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Liu) who realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears.”
The synopsis continued, stating Hale is “caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.”
Melissa Barrera, Sinclair Daniel, Brian D’Arcy James, Mark O’Brien, and Kathleen Chalfant rounded out the main cast alongside Liu. Thomas Brandon created the show and took on writing, executive producing, and co-showrunning duties. Jennifer Yale shared co-showrunner responsibilities with Brandon and also contributed as a writer and executive producer.
Liu added executive producer credits to his leading role on the series. Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett executive produced, with Mark Winemaker and Jet Wilkinson rounding out the producing team. Wilkinson helmed the opening two episodes of the season. UCP handled production duties as the studio behind the series.
