Director Ridley Scott has nothing left to prove, but he talks a big game in interviews, and this sometimes backfires. He recently described Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus as just “okay” and expressed interest in returning to the long-running franchise. He said that he wants to continue the storyline he started with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, essentially erasing Romulus from the timeline. But the thing is that Romulus made more money and received better reviews than Scott’s Covenant, and now, the franchise is stuck in limbo. Scott made similarly dismissive comments about another follow-up to one of his sci-fi classics several years ago. The movie in question is currently streaming on Paramount+ in the United States, but not for much longer.
