Orlando Bloom on if Legolas Will Return in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

Orlando Bloom, who portrayed Legolas in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie series, recently gave an update on whether he would return for The Hunt for Gollum, the upcoming entry in the franchise. Andy Serkis, who also voices Gollum, is helming the movie. Last month, Sir Ian McKellen confirmed the return of characters Gandalf and Frodo in The Hunt for Gollum.

Bloom disclosed during a recent appearance on the Today Show that he hadn’t heard anything about his return as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum (working title). He said, “I have not heard a peep, actually. I don’t know. I know it’s focusing on Gollum, so anything’s possible.”

The Cut actor stated that Legolas is “such an amazing part,” adding, “I’m so grateful to have been a part of those movies. But I haven’t heard.” When asked what he would do if he got a call about reprising the role, Bloom said, “Listen, I’d hate to see anyone else play Legolas, you know what I mean? What are they going to do? Are they going to put somebody else in as Legolas?”

Bloom portrayed Legolas in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. He received several accolades for the role, including the MTV Movie Award for Best Male Breakthrough Performance in 2002.

Speculations about Bloom and other original Lord of the Rings cast members have been going around since Warner Bros. announced The Hunt for Gollum as the first of the two new movies in 2024.

Like its predecessors, it’s an adaptation of the literary works of J. R. R. Tolkien. The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to debut in U.S. theaters in December 2027.
