Orlando Bloom recently shared his perspective on one of the more intimate scenes in his upcoming film Bucking Fastard. The actor plays a man caught between twin sisters portrayed by real-life siblings Kate Mara and Rooney Mara, leading to a threesome scene. He explained what made the scene work for the characters and how he approached the situation during filming.

Orlando Bloom has spoken about filming a threesome scene with Kate Mara and Rooney Mara in Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard, describing it as a genuine moment between the characters. Bloom discussed the intimate scene while appearing with Herzog at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where they were presenting the movie.

Bloom portrays Gareth Mulroney, while Rooney Mara and Kate Mara play the twin sisters Joan and Jean Holbrooke. The actor said, “There is such simplicity to the characters and [their] carnal desires, but also an innocence to the sisters. My character, the Bucking Fastard, is sensitive too. And he’s quite quickly out of his depth in some ways.” According to Variety, he added, “It was a very sincere sort of moment that was created.”  

The actor’s comments came as he and Herzog discussed the film at the festival, where they offered insight into how the intimate scene was handled during production.

The scene also required Herzog to take a less hands-on approach while filming. “There are moments when a director has to step back. In the love scene, I said to Orlando: ‘You are in bed, and you have two women in your arms. How you deal with it, I cannot give instructions,’” the director said. Herzog ultimately described the scene as having “charm and depth.”

Bucking Fastard draws inspiration from the real-life story of Yorkshire-born identical twins Freda and Greta Chaplin. The movie does not yet have confirmed dates for its theatrical debut or digital release.
