The Primetime Emmy-winning whodunnit comedy, Only Murders in the Building, has returned for Season 5. Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are reprising their roles as the self-proclaimed detectives of The Arconia.

Season 4 ended on a cliffhanger with Charles, Oliver, and Mable finding Lester, the building’s doorman’s body, in the fountain. In Season 5, the police declare his death an accident, but the trio knows otherwise. In their brainstorming session, they find a mysterious finger snuck into Charles’ apartment on a plate of food. The trio originally thought that the finger belonged to Lester, but soon realized that wasn’t the case.

This takes them down an investigation spiral, leading to Sofia Caccimelio, the lady who tried to hire them in the previous season. Later in the episode, Charles and Mable discover a hidden casino beneath the building. Meanwhile, Oliver heads to a nearby dry cleaners, where he bumps into another dead body.

The body that Oliver encounters is that of Nicky Caccimelio, Sofia’s mobster husband. In Episode 2, “After You,” viewers learn that Nicky has a long-standing relationship with The Arconia and Lester. He ran an illegal casino for decades beneath the building and paid off Lester to keep it a secret.

The casino invites some of the wealthiest people in the city. So, in Episode 3, “Rigor,” the trio decides to sneak back into the casino in the hope of finding the killer. In the very last moments, the show reveals a character with a missing finger. So, did this person kill Lester and Nicky?
