Director Paul Thomas Anderson finally won his first Best Director Academy Award this year, for his epic screwball adventure film One Battle After Another. The win was a long time coming, considering how many stone-cold masterpieces he has made in his career. One could argue that Anderson has made more classics than any other American filmmaker of his generation. He was previously nominated in the Best Director category for his work on Licorice Pizza and Phantom Thread, but he came the closest he ever had to winning when he scored a nod for his 2007 epic Western. The movie in question is currently streaming on Peacock domestically, but is about to leave the platform soon.
