Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” continues to do very strong mid-week business, pulling in $14.7 million on its second Monday and likely around $16 million today.
As a result, the film’s domestic total is expected to hit $320 million by end of Tuesday and cross the $330 million mark tomorrow – its 13th day of release (including Thursday night previews).
Why is that important? Because at that point it will have overtaken the entire domestic theatrical gross of his historical drama “Oppenheimer” which took months to reach that mark before it closed.
It makes the film Nolan’s third-highest-grossing movie domestically behind only “The Dark Knight” ($534.9M) and “The Dark Knight Rises” ($448.1M).
At least one of those records is likely to fall soon too as, despite the arrival of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” taking up so much of the box-office, the third weekend of “The Odyssey” is still on track for a $45 million haul (a drop of about 50%).
“The Odyssey” is expected to maintain a hold of IMAX screens exclusively in the US for at least another two weeks.
