Nouvelle Vague Trailer: Zoey Deutch Stars in Richard Linklater’s New Netflix Movie

Netflix has released the official trailer for Nouvelle Vague.

Nouvelle Vague is billed as Richard Linklater’s love letter to French cinema. Linklater reimagines the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, which positioned Godard as a “pioneer of the French New Wave.”

What happens in the Nouvelle Vague trailer?

“If they want the New Wave, let’s give them a tidal wave,” Marbeck’s Godard says in the trailer. Godard is attempting to direct his first feature film and recruits American actress Jean Seberg (Deutch) and French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo (Dullin) as his stars. The film would turn all three into icons of the French New Wave.

“As critic-turned-director Godard makes and breaks the rules, a mix of fresh faces and daring talents bring his spontaneous, electric film to life,” the Netflix synopsis reads. “Capturing the youthful dynamism and creative chaos at the heart of one of the world’s most beloved and influential movies, Nouvelle Vague transports us to the streets of 1959 Paris for an ode to the power of cinema to transform our lives.”

Linklater directs Nouvelle Vague from a screenplay by Holly Gent, Vincent Palmo Jr., Michèle Halberstadt, and Laetitia Masson. Producers include Laurent Pétin and Michèle Pétin (Halberstadt). The cast features Guillaume Marbeck, Zoey Deutch, and Aubry Dullin.

Nouvelle Vague is one of two Linklater movies premiering this fall. Linklater’s second movie, Blue Moon, is a dramedy about songwriter Lorenz Hart, who attends the opening night of Oklahoma to support his former creative partner, Richard Rodgers.

Blue Moon stars Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott. Blue Moon opens in theaters on November 17, 2025.

As for Nouvelle Vague, the film opens in select US theaters on October 31, 2025. The film will then stream on Netflix starting November 14, 2025.
