Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) continues to struggle in upcoming Coronation Street episodes, as the aftermath of being abused while working as a paramedic continues to affect her.

Trainee paramedic Asha went through the shift from hell in a special episode that showed a day in her working life, during which she had to deal with a harrowing death and was then racially abused, assaulted and spat at by someone she was trying to help.

Since then she’s been experiencing panic attacks and has become increasingly withdrawn, to the point where her family and friends have noticed a change in her behaviour.

So far the only person she’s really started to open up to is Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), who advised her to report the incident she’d experienced to her managers. Apart from this advice, Asha has been trying to struggle on alone.

When Asha saw Naomi, the woman who’d abused her, at an event at the Chariot Square Hotel, she was shaken. She tried tackling Naomi, who denied all of her accusations. At home after this encounter she did manage to confide in Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove), but begged her not to confront Naomi on her behalf.

Of course Bernie ignores this and takes some direct action against Naomi in a forthcoming episode, disrupting Naomi’s presentation at the hotel, by telling the audience that Naomi abused Asha, a paramedic and a woman of colour.

With her audience in uproar, Naomi is fuming. Responding to this, she tells Bernie she’ll sue her for defamation.

Asha is in despair, as she and her family are now apparently locked in a legal battle with Naomi that will make it impossible for her to put Naomi’s vile actions to the back of her mind and carry on with her life.

Increasingly she starts to turn to drink. We’ve already seen her getting very drunk on the occasion when Lisa found her and brought her home, and this behaviour continues with her knocking back the drinks.

Her friend and former girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) witnesses this behaviour and she’s worried.

‘They’ve remained really good friends,’ Tanisha Gorey told us, ‘but I don’t think Asha will want to talk about this to anyone because she feels so alone and doesn’t want to admit that to anyone.’

Can Nina get Asha to open up about what she’s going through?
