Nicole Scherzinger suffered a nasty injury just moments before she was due on stage, leaving her with burns and blisters.
The musician, 48, is currently on tour in Europe with Pussycat Dolls bandmates Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt after they reunited earlier this year as a trio.
Despite low ticket sales forcing the Buttons hitmakers to axe a string of concerts in North American arenas, they’ve stayed positive and put on lively shows for fans in Denmark, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, France, and more.
However, their latest gig in Germany was close to being delayed after Nicole’s backstage incident.
Taking to her Instagram Story, the lead singer shared a snap of her burnt skin, writing: ‘Nothing like boiling water falling on your leg an hour before your set’.
But, ever the professional, she declared: ‘The show must go on.’
‘Thanks Düsseldorf for keeping me going. See you soon Amsterdam,’ Nicole added.
And she certainly did keep going, as the performer then shared fans’ clips from the show on her Story, dancing with high energy in leotards and glittery attire, refusing to let the burns stop her.
The PCD Forever tour began in California on June 6 at WeHo Pride Festival and followed the band’s comeback in March, when they released Club Song, their first single in six years.
On stage, they perform all their hits, from When I Grow Up to Jai Ho! and from Stickwitu to Don’t Cha. Each member also has a solo section, with a dance number for Ashley, a DJ set for Kimberly, and Nicole belting out her tunes Poison, Right There, and more.
Initially, Nicole, Ashley, 45, and Kimberly, 44, had 33 North American dates in the diary, but with just weeks to go until opening night, the venues were reportedly still 80% empty.
Sales were described as being ‘alarmingly low’ in June, leaving fans to wonder whether venues would be downsized or scrapped from the tour completely.
Consequently, on May 4, the Pussycat Dolls announced they would be cancelling all but one of their North American dates, still headlining the West Hollywood Pride Festival, reducing the tour to 22 shows.
Their statement at the time read: ‘When we announced the PCD FOREVER Tour, we hoped to bring the show to fans across the world.
‘After taking an honest look at the North American run, we’ve made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to cancel all but one of the North America dates.’
They confirmed that the UK and European dates would still be ‘moving forward as planned’, calling the response across the pond ‘incredible’, with ‘several shows already sold out’.
‘We are putting everything into making this show a true celebration of the music and the memories, for the fans who have been with us from the beginning and those discovering us for the first time,’ they added.
‘We’re working hard to create the kind of show we’ve always dreamed of bringing to you. We cannot wait to bring this reunion to Europe and make these nights unforgettable.’
It was predicted that the three-woman tour was always going to be a tough sell, given that original members Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta, and Melody Thornton have not returned.
Carmit, 52, and Jessica, 44, have been especially vocal about their feelings after being snubbed from the reunion, saying they were ‘blindsided’.
Jessica claimed that, ‘when rumours about the three girls began circulating’, she tried to ‘reach out privately for several months’ but received no response until ‘the night before the announcement’.
Explaining that health issues and family loss prevented her from returning under the ‘current circumstances’, she added: ‘I simply would have appreciated a heads-up earlier so I could process everything privately and handle the situation with a bit more grace and dignity.’
She later said on The Maverick Approach podcast that the reunion is a ‘cash grab’, claiming she was deemed a ‘liability’ due to her Republican stance.
As for Carmit, she’s voiced her ‘disappointment’, too, telling The Mirror: ‘It was definitely disappointing not having direct communication.
‘I chose to stay focused on my own growth, my new music and protecting my peace.’
On whether her former bandmates had picked up the phone, she replied coyly: ‘I’ll always honour what we built together. What happened after speaks for itself.’
In the coming days, the Pussycat Dolls will begin their UK shows in Birmingham, continuing through October in cities including Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, and London, before concluding the tour in Brazil on October 30.
