Nexon and Embark Studios have officially partnered with Chernin Entertainment to develop film and television adaptations based on their flagship shooter titles, Arc Raiders and The Finals. Chernin Entertainment, the production house behind the recent cinematic success of Backrooms, secured the rights following a competitive bidding process that involved multiple major studios and production companies.

The deal marks a significant push into transmedia for Embark Studios, leveraging the established player bases of its two most successful properties. Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Embark Studios, described the partnership as a step toward creating “deeply integrated transmedia experiences,” signaling an intent to expand the lore of these digital worlds beyond the interactive space.

Chernin’s Momentum and the Competitive Bid

The selection of Chernin Entertainment as the lead producer comes as the studio maintains high industry momentum following its 2026 adaptation of Backrooms. That film achieved a massive commercial footprint, grossing over $400 million worldwide against a modest $10 million budget. This track record of translating viral and niche digital concepts into mainstream box-office hits reportedly made Chernin the preferred choice during the bidding war.

According to Inven Global, the partnership aims to capitalize on the unique visual identities and narrative potential of both games, though no specific directors, writers, or production timelines have been finalized for either project.

Growth and Success of Arc Raiders and The Finals

The announcement follows a period of substantial growth for both titles. Arc Raiders, which won Best Multiplayer at the 2025 Game Awards, has surpassed 16 million copies sold since its launch in October 2025. Meanwhile, the arena shooter The Finals has registered more than 30 million players over its first three years of operation.

Current players of both games have significant updates on the immediate horizon as the television and film projects enter early development. Arc Raiders is scheduled to receive its largest content update to date, titled “Frozen Trail,” on October 8, 2026. Shortly after, The Finals is set to launch Season 12 on October 20, 2026, which is expected to further evolve the game’s destructible environments and team-based mechanics.

While Nexon and Embark have not yet clarified whether the adaptations will be live-action or animated, the involvement of Chernin suggests a focus on high-production value projects that can bridge the gap between dedicated gaming audiences and broader cinematic viewers. Further details regarding casting or specific plot details for the two adaptations are expected to emerge as the projects move into pre-production.
