Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed a brand new PlayStation App that is available to download on iOS and Android devices today. The PlayStation Family App allows parents to manage PS5 and PS4 parental controls right from their mobile devices.
The PlayStation Family App includes tons of features to help parents monitor their children’s time with a PS5 or PS4. A guided onboarding experience will acquaint parents with the app, which they can use to view their child’s activity, manage playtime, manage spending, filter content, and customize the console’s privacy settings and social features.
Parents share their appreciation for the newly revealed PlayStation Family App
These features on the PlayStation Family App have some solid functions beyond what might be expected. Parents can implement limits to playtime for each day of the week, add funds and set spending limits on the PS Store, and view a weekly activity report to see all their child’s playtime and activity information. This is just the beginning, as Sony will continue to improve the app with new enhancements over time.
“We’re excited to bring an easy way for parents to manage their children’s gaming directly from their mobile devices,” reads the PS Blog post. “This is just the beginning with our new mobile app – we’ll plan to continue adding enhancements to the PlayStation Family app to evolve the experience over time. We hope you’ll enjoy it, and we look forward to your feedback.”
In the X (formerly Twitter) post announcing the PlayStation Family App, parents and friends of parents shared their appreciation in the comments.
“I had a friend ask me about family features on PlayStation a while ago because he’d found them quite lacklustre; this is an excellent improvement to see,” reads one comment from @OctoriousYT.
“This is great! Was struggling to get to the settings to manage my daughter’s profile,” says user @Tijs_fan.
“Honestly, a massive W,” reads a comment by @Legend_Scoutto. “Hope that parents will use this for their kids that play too much Fortnite and/or Roblox.”
Overall, it looks like players are happy that something like the PlayStation Family App exists. However, some users are reporting that it crashes on Android devices.
