Naomi Ackie (“Mickey 17,” “I Love Boosters”) is in final talks to star opposite Maika Monroe in David Robert Mitchell’s “It Follows” follow-up “They Follow” at Neon.
No details are forthcoming about who Ackie will play or the story for the long-anticipated sequel, which will take place a decade after the events of the original psychological horror feature.
The first film’s story follows Jay Height (Monroe), a college student who, after a sexual encounter, becomes the target of an unstoppable supernatural entity.
As the entity takes the form of random people, slowly but relentlessly stalking her and her friends through the Detroit area, she grapples with the fact that she will only be able to escape the curse she has inherited by passing it on to someone else through sex.
Keir Gilchrist, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary, Olivia Luccardi, and Lili Sepe co-starred in the film, which grossed around $23 million against a reported budget of a little over a million.
Mitchell is again set to direct from his own script with filming to begin next month. Michell Jake Weiner, Chris Bender, David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green and Laura Smith produce.
Ackie will next be seen in “Clayface”.
