Mystery Men’s Ben Stiller & Janeane Garofalo Reunite for New TV Show, But Not What Fans Wanted

Ben Stiller is reuniting with Janeane Garofalo for a new comedy TV show. The two actors have previously shared the screen in several notable movies and shows.

According to Deadline, Garofalo will appear in a recurring role in Protective Custody. It is an upcoming comedy series on Apple TV, starring and executive-produced by Stiller and Benicio Del Toro.

This isn’t the first time Garofalo has worked with Stiller on a project. Their famous collaborations include the 1999 film Mystery Men. The superhero comedy bears no connection to their upcoming roles.

Other popular movies and television shows in which the actors have appeared include Reality Bites, The Cable Guy, and Permanent Midnight. Garofalo has also appeared on The Ben Stiller Show.

In addition to their on-screen collaborations, Garofalo and Stiller co-wrote a 1999 New York Times bestselling book called Feel This Book: An A–Z Guide to Self-Improvement, Spiritual Supremacy, and Sexual Satisfaction.

What else do we know about Ben Stiller’s new Protective Custody show?

Apple TV’s Protective Custody follows a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud. After landing himself in protective custody, he must navigate prison politics and find a way to clear his name as he awaits trial.

In addition to Garofalo, Stiller, and Del Toro, the cast also includes Amy Sedaris, Samson Kayo, and Sonny Valicenti. However, character details remain under wraps.

Protective Custody is written, show-run, and executive-produced by Mike Judge, Steve Hely, and Dave King. Judge serves as the director as well.

Exec producers also include Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, and Rodney Ferrell for Propagate Content; Stiller and John Lesher for Red Hour; and Michael Rotenberg and Oly Obst for 3 Arts Entertainment, Del Toro, Nanette Burstein, and Blair Breard.

Stiller’s upcoming movies include Focker-in-Law with Ariana Grande and Robert De Niro. The actor will also appear in A Matter of Time, alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Bella Maclean.

Meanwhile, Garofalo is set to star in Romy and Michele 2, the sequel to the 1997 film Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and the third installment in the beloved film series.
