Curious to know why Cole can’t play football in My Life with the Walter Boys? The character had a passion for the game, but it was eventually short-lived. After much confusion, the show finally disclosed the reason.
Here is everything you need to know about Cole’s football career in the teen drama series.

Why can’t Cole play football in My Life with the Walter Boys?
Cole can’t play football in My Life with the Walter Boys due to a leg injury.
In the original novel by Ali Novak, Cole also suffered an injury during a game. He was tackled the wrong way and ended up breaking his leg. In the series, Cole broke his leg under different circumstances. Nathan Walter, Cole’s brother, told Jackie in one of the episodes that Cole injured his leg last winter while skiing. He said, “He used to be the best quarterback in the county, but he smashed up his leg last winter. Can’t play anymore. Cole lived for football. He’s different now.”
Cole’s injury completely changed his life, as he had been the star player for the Silver Falls Bighorns. He decided to stop going to school and work for an automobile company since he no longer had a scholarship to attend college. The accident also affected his mental health and academic performance because, without football, he felt like he had nothing. In the book, Cole detached himself from the sport, believing that things would never be the same.
However, in the series, Jackie motivated Cole to do better in life. As a result, in Season 2, he worked to change the trajectory of his future. Cole decided to pursue his football dream in a new way—by becoming an assistant coach for the Silver Falls Bighorns.
He went on to mentor Dylan and helped the team in every way possible. Soon, he was offered a place in a coaching program by a scout. Cole’s return to the football world succeeded in bringing the spark back in him.
