Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) claimed that a so-called physical altercation with Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) led to her suffering a miscarriage in Coronation Street – but that wasn’t what happened at all.
The abuser, as viewers know, was pregnant with Weatherfield High pupil Will Driscoll’s (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) baby after she groomed the student for months.
Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Eva Price (Catherine Tyldelsey), who uncovered her twisted actions last month, were hopeful that the baby was the evidence they would need to prove Megan groomed Will.
The truth of the teacher’s abuse came to light after Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), who had been tormented by the abuser, ended up in hospital.
Sam had worked out what Megan was up to and tried to get proof of such a thing but Megan responded by sabotaging his grades at school, causing him to spiral down a rabbit hole of unprescribed drugs in a desperate attempt to improve his academic performance.
In emotional scenes while recovering in hospital, he revealed what he knew about Megan to Leanne, who relayed the news to the Driscoll clan, who were left reeling to learn that Will had been targeted and groomed by someone they knew so well.
Maggie in particular made it her mission to make Megan pay, tracking her down earlier this week where she made it clear that the predator has no idea what she’s capable of.
As viewers know, Maggie has killed before.
Megan, however, remains unaware of such a thing and thus she decided to call the police on Maggie in retaliation, claiming that the Driscoll matriarch assaulted her and ‘pushed her over’.
Will, meanwhile, was devastated to learn from Megan that the baby had died following the altercation. In subsequent scenes, Megan told Maggie that she lost the baby as a result of the showdown on the previous night, pointing the finger at the Rovers landlady.
Will was similarly devastated and made it clear that he holds Maggie responsible for the loss.
But as the episode came to a close, it was revealed that Megan had a termination.
