Curious about the latest cast update on General Hospital? As the soap takes Maxie off-screen with a coma twist, fans are watching closely to see how her absence changes the story. Kirsten Storms stepped away from the role, and her on-screen son shared a heartfelt message. The show marks another emotional chapter for Port Charles.

Here’s how Gary James Fuller bid farewell to Storms and what her temporary leave means for Maxie’s future.

Gary James Fuller, who plays James West on General Hospital, shared a heartfelt message after Kirsten Storms’ temporary exit from the soap.

As Maxie was written into a coma and moved to Massachusetts, the 9-year-old actor posted behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram from Storms’ last tape day. “We miss you already,” Fuller wrote, sending support to his on-screen mom.

Storms explained that her leave was not permanent but related to a move from California to Tennessee. In July, she said via social media, “When you approach a job like this, they can always be like, ‘Forget it. I will let you out of your contract if you’re gonna leave the state.’ General Hospital did not do that, which was kind of amazing, because I also asked for some time off.” She clarified that her time away would not be lengthy, stating, “It’s possible I will be back in December maybe November.”

Maxie’s coma storyline covers her absence but does not mirror Lulu’s years-long coma arc. Storms stressed that her break would be short, reassuring fans about her return.

Storms joined General Hospital in 2005 as Maxie Jones, daughter of supercouple Frisco and Felicia Jones. She married fellow cast member Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny Zacchara) in 2013, and they welcomed their daughter Harper, now 11. They divorced in 2016 but continue to co-parent Harper amicably.

Storms framed her absence as temporary, with her character’s coma providing narrative cover until she returns later this year. Fuller’s message underscored the close bonds formed behind the scenes.later this year. Fuller’s message underscored the close bonds formed behind the scenes.
