In the last decade, Matt Smith has been nominated for an Emmy for his performance in Netflix’s The Crown, and taken on a pivotal role in the much-hyped Game Of Thrones spin-off House Of The Dragon.

But it seems his Doctor Who past is still following him around in a big way.

During a recent interview with Dev Griffin on his Heart radio show, Matt was asked if there’s a particular question he wants people to stop asking him.

“At airports, I always get, ‘didn’t you bring your Tardis?’,” Matt responded.

““No, mate. I didn’t. ’Cause if I did, I wouldn’t be queuing up, you know, having to get my laptop out while you look at it for no apparent reason. And, like, check my shoes for God knows what. And if I did bring my Tardis, I certainly wouldn’t be queuing up to get through your metal detecting machine.”

While Matt initially suggested this was not a “please stop asking me” situation, he eventually conceded: “So… please stop asking me if I did.”

Matt took over the role of the Time Lord from David Tennant, and played the role between 2010 and 2013, last making a one-off appearance in 2014.

He is currently on the promo trail for his new movie Caught Stealing, helmed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Austin Butler, Zoe Kravitz, Regina King and Liev Schreiber.

The film marks something of a change of tone for its Oscar-nominated director, who is best known for his work on the likes of Requiem For A Dream, Black Swan, Mother! and, most recently, The Whale.
