Though it may have fizzled at the box-office, Amazon’s “Masters of the Universe” film had a strong debut on streaming.

The movie, based on the 1980s cartoon series and toys, shot to the No. 1 overall ranking in Nielsen’s streaming ratings for the week of July 20th-26th.

The title debuted on the service on July 22nd, just over a month after its theatrical premiere, and scored 1.17 billion minutes of watch time for the week – one of just two titles to cross the billion-minute threshold.

It handily beat two other direct-to-streaming debuts – Will Ferrell Netflix comedy “The Hawk” (944 million) and the Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham-led “Ride or Die” (922 million).

“Masters of the Universe” fizzled in cinemas, pulling in just under $114 million worldwide at the box office against a $170 million budget.

Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices.
