Masters of the Universe teased the inclusion of She-Ra in the next He-Man movie. A sequel isn’t a given, but if it happens, she will be key to Amazon’s plans for the movie.
The new He-Man movie is directed by Travis Knight and stars Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Idris Elba, Jared Leto, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Kristen Wiig. In one of the film’s post-credit scenes, She-Ra is briefly teased, but not shown off in full. Should a second movie be made, her inclusion will be key for a few reasons.
She-Ra is major key to next Masters of the Universe 2
She-Ra’s inclusion in a potential Masters of the Universe 2 is big for a number of reasons. For one, She-Ra is one of the most popular characters in the larger Masters of the Universe franchise. Not only has she gotten her own popular spin-off shows, but she is one of the most recognizable and iconic figures in the history of toys and cartoons.
She-Ra will be a huge boost to keep the franchises’s popularity up. Not only is she another powerful hero in the fight for Eternia, but she also represents another big part of Adam’s story. In the first film, we’re treated to a deep dive into Adam’s (Nicholas Galitzine) backstory, including his life in Eternos prior to Skeletor’s arrival.
What we don’t see any of, though, is his sister. Instead, She-Ra is teased at the conclusion of the film, finally ready to return to Eternos after being away. Her return will provide a great opportunity for the film to fill in some key story details and give us something to watch as the two come to terms with each other as not only siblings, but heroes. According to director Travis Knight, should a sequel be made, She-Ra was will be a big part of it.
“I can say very little about She-Ra,” Knight said to SFX magazine. “For me, She-Ra has always been a big part of the Masters world and a big part of Adam’s story. In the fullness of time, if we’re lucky to tell more stories in this universe, She-Ra will play a huge part.”
Currently, a sequel to Masters of the Universe seems up in the air. After premiering over the weekend, the Masters of the Universe movie stumbled a bit at the box office. The movie debuted at #2 behind Scary Movie this week, but earned only $54 million globally, a low number for the film that cost nearly $200 million to make. Despite that, hopes for a sequel should remain high.
Amazon MGM Studios has praised the film, and should the film find success on Prime Video, it’s likely a sequel will get made regardless of box office fare. Should it, the company would be smart to lean fully into the inclusion of She-Ra.
